Chair - Janice Hilton

Janice has been in musical theatre since the age of 8 years old and has played many parts in various groups. Her first love is acting, and she usually likes the comedic role. Janice joined Northampton Amateur Operatic company, as it was called then in 1971 and her first show was Bless the Bride. When unable to be in the yearly productions, due to work or having children, she always helped in some capacity and found the group always to be a second family.

In 1983 when the Derngate opened its doors we did Camelot, one of Janices favourite shows and she played the part of Lady Sybil. In 1996 Janice joined the committee and became chairman in 1999 a role which she still holds now.

Martyn Knight our professional Director came in 2000 and has been with us ever since. Janice took on the role of being his assistant so has not been in many shows since that time as this role is very time consuming. It fits in with work and family life and as she gets older admits to finding learning words a challenge.

Janice is very proud of the company and youth society in its achievements and professionalism and hopes that the now called the Northampton Musical theatre company may it go on from strength to strength.

Secretary - Jayne Minter Maryan

Jayne has been interested in Musical Theatre since the age of eleven when she was introduced to the stage and cast as Brigitta in the Sound of Music. A career in nursing, running a dance school for 10 years and a young family put paid to performing for several years but she joined NMTC over twenty years ago which rekindled the desire to sing and perform.
Jayne joined the committee fifteen years ago and has been secretary for the past ten years. She has managed to fit in a few memorable roles during that time and is also a member of NMTC singers as well as many off-stage duties including managing and chaperoning the under sixteens when they are involved in the productions.
Jayne is also an active member of her church and regularly sings in a band there on Sundays.

Treasurer - Jo Pusey

Jo became a member of NMTC in 2013 and was elected onto the committee in 2017. She soon took over the role of Treasurer and is responsible for the financial health of the company, keeping an eye on our budgets and making sure our invoices are paid on time to allow our productions to flourish!

Jo has performed in a number of shows with the company including Oklahoma, Blitz, Summer Holiday, Made in Dagenham, Calendar Girls and Guys & Dolls. When she’s not performing in a show, Jo can often be found lurking in the shadows as part of the props and backstage crew.

Along with a few of the other committee members, Jo is also a dedicated member of the NMTC Singers and enjoys performing in numerous concerts with them throughout the year.

By day, Jo works as a Commercial Property Solicitor with local firm, Franklins Solicitors.

Business Manager - Kathryn Farrar

Kathryn joined NMTC in 2000 for the show Oklahoma following several years performing with Northampton G&S group. She loved music from an early age – having singing lessons and learning the piano. She has enjoyed being a member of the ensemble for many shows and concerts – her favourites being 42nd Street and Sister Act!

Kathryn was elected on to the committee in 2006. First as a committee member and then later taking on the role of Business Manager a few years later. The role has a varying number of jobs from poster design, tickets and programme writing and design and reading contracts.

In her spare time Kathryn loves visiting the theatre – particularly the West End. During show weeks Kathryn can often be found front of house selling programmes and counting the number of ticket sales! Hopefully one day soon time will allow her to get back on the stage and sing.

Communications Manager - Fiona Luck

Fiona joined the company in 2016 working on the wardrobe for our production of Grease. She has since joined the cast of many productions while also running the wardrobe. In 2017 along with Katy Batchelor and Helen Kennedy she set up the youth society and up until 2023 choreographed all the youth performances. She now chairs the youth society and acts as their production manager heading up a talented youth team who all support in the running of the youth society. Fiona joined the committee in 2022 as Website and Communications manager and acts as the bridge between the youth team and the elected committee.

Fiona’s love of all things theatrical started at the age of four. Fiona danced competitively until the age of 18 in local and national competitions, choreographing some of her own routines and culminating in winning the Senior Bursary at Northampton Festival of Dance. Having spent much of her youth going along to amateur theatre companies with her parents she has developed and learnt a vast knowledge of many aspects of theatrical production but ultimately being on the stage is what she loves the most. Her most enjoyable production with NMTC was Made in Dagenham in 2019 and her favourite musicals are Miss Saigon & Blood Brothers.

Fundraising Manager - Jay Upton

Jay has been a member of the company since 2007, where she participated in her first concert. Since then, she has been involved in every show except two when she had her children. Her favourite show with NMTC is Sister Act where she played Mary Patrick, a role that she will treasure forever.

Jay has always performed from a young age and has had a fascination with musical theatre after watching ‘Calamity Jane’ on TV, a show which she has been hoping to perform since. Her favourite musical is Hairspray and hopes one day to play Tracey Turnblad.

Jay joined the NMTC committee in 2022 taking on fundraising. She loves organising events for the company to take part in and welcome family and friends to join. Her aim is to support every show each year financially, allowing the company to thrive and perform even more incredible shows.

Robert Laurie

Performing for over 30 years with NMTC, Robert has indulged his passion for singing at every opportunity since he was a child, starting with school choir, through university, Gilbert and Sullivan and then finally joining NMTC when he settled in Northampton!

Robert enjoys all sorts of productions from musical theatre and choral singing through to opera and panto, and some of his favourite shows have been held at our local Derngate Theatre: Oklahoma, My Fair Lady, Sister Act, Blitz, 42nd Street…and more recently West Side Story, Made in Dagenham and Shrek the Musical.

NMTC is a wonderfully sociable company, and as well as the main shows, Robert is a committed member of the NMTC Singers and an enthusiastic supporter of the NMTC Youth Society. The Singers rehearse regularly throughout the year, producing fundraising concerts for both the society and our chosen charities, but our coffee breaks (and pub visits) are as important to us as the music! We have a lot of fun in NMTC, and I’m so proud to be part of such a successful and talented group; now, as a more senior member of the company, I’m delighted to see newer generations stepping up and taking the company further into the 21st century.

Andrew Percival

Andrew has been an active member of NMTC since 1979, he first took part in the Chorus of South Pacific which was performed at the ABC Northampton now renamed as the Deco.
